Not just another workout generator

Most workout apps ask what you want to achieve. VivaBuilt also learns what you can do today, what to be careful with, and what you have to train with.

Your body

Tell it about a sore shoulder, knee, back, or hip, down to the movement that bothers it and how much. Exercise choices and starting weights adjust to what you report.

Your Fit Test

An optional guided assessment of strength, mobility, and balance. Its results shape which exercises you get, not just how heavy they are. Retake the Fit Test to see your progress.

Your equipment

A full gym, a pair of dumbbells, or nothing at all. Save each place you train, and every workout uses only what's there, giving you a great workout each time.

Your progress

Weights and reps adjust depending on what you actually log, and exercises rotate based on your recovery needs and to keep your workouts fresh.

How it works

Schedule settings: days per week from 1 to 7, session length from 20 to 90 minutes, and a workout split of Push/Pull/Legs, Upper/Lower, or Full Body

1How you like to work out

Your goal, how many days a week, how long each session, and the kind of split you like: full body, upper and lower, or push, pull, and legs. Change any of it anytime.

The Problem Areas screen: Shoulder expanded, with Overhead reach selected at Moderate severity The Fit Test overview: phases covering mobility and movement quality, strength and stability, cardiovascular and functional fitness, and joint-specific screening

2Your body

Tell it about your problem areas, down to the specific movement. Take the Fit Test to provide even more information. Retake as your body changes. This information is used to adjust your workout to fit your body.

3Where you work out

Home, the Y, a hotel gym: save each place with the equipment and weights it has, and switch with a tap. Every workout uses only what's there, giving you a great workout wherever you are.

Every session is complete: warm-up, exercises with sets, reps, and weights, and a cool-down. Add optional problem area exercises. Log as you go, and the next workout builds on it.

Problem areas, built into your workout

Make room for the exercises that keep you training

Extra work for a problem area only counts if you do it. VivaBuilt puts it where it gets done: in your workout.

  • Pick a problem area (shoulder, elbow, wrist, lower back, hip, knee, ankle, or foot) and VivaBuilt adds exercises for it to today's session in one tap.
  • They're matched to the area and movement you report, like reaching overhead or twisting.
  • Log them like any other exercise, so you can see the work getting done.
  • Browse 187 exercises in the Problem Area Library, and mark the ones you want to see more often. If you're working with a physical therapist, follow their guidance on what to include.

What people are saying

“This is the app that I have been looking for. I want to get stronger, but I need to be careful with my shoulder. VivaBuilt does a good job of recommending exercises that will make me stronger given my issues. When it recommends an exercise that might hurt, it reminds me to be careful.”
Tom, early user Working around a sore shoulder
“I love the Fit Test aspect of VivaBuilt. It helps me communicate where I am strong and weak so that the exercises can target those areas. And it is another way to check my progress.”
Sarah, early user Uses the Fit Test to track her progress
“VivaBuilt is a fantastic addition to working with a physical therapist. It does a good job of helping the user do what is required to address issues that they have with their bodies.”

Why VivaBuilt exists

Dale Ferrario, VivaBuilt's creator, has spent his whole career in high tech, building software. Away from the keyboard, he has never been good at sitting still: golf, hiking, mountain biking, climbing, boating, and the gym have filled his life for decades.

All that living left its marks: a cranky lower back, shoulders that object to certain movements, and feet that don't always cooperate. Rather than give up what he loves, he learned to train around his body.

The fitness apps he tried knew his goals, but not his back, his shoulders, or the gear in his garage. So he built one that does.

Your body. Your data.

Everything you tell the app about your body and your workouts stays on your phone. None of it is sent to us or anyone else, and none of it is used for anything other than building the best workouts for you. That means there are no ads, no tracking, and VivaBuilt works without an internet connection. The only information we collect is what you choose to give us on this website: your email address for the launch list, and your answers if you sign up for the beta. If you subscribe, your payment goes through Apple, not to us. Read the privacy policy.

Questions

Which devices does it work on?

Any iPhone running iOS 15.1 or later. VivaBuilt is designed for iPhone; you can install it on an iPad, where it runs in an iPhone-sized window. Android is coming in the future, with no date yet; leave your email above and we'll tell you when it's ready.

Can I try it before launch?

Yes. We're looking for beta testers to use VivaBuilt on their iPhone before launch and tell us what it would take to earn 5 stars. As our thanks, every tester gets free lifetime access. Sign up for the beta.

Do I need a gym?

No. VivaBuilt plans around whatever you have: a full gym, a few dumbbells or bands at home, or just your body weight. You can save several places you train, each with its own equipment and the weights you actually own.

Pounds or kilograms?

Either. Choose when you set up, and change it anytime in Settings.

How long are the workouts?

You choose: 20 to 90 minutes, one to seven days a week. Each session includes a warm-up and a cool-down.

Can I fit my physical therapy exercises into my workouts?

Yes. Add a problem area to any workout and VivaBuilt includes exercises for it, matched to the area and movement you report. To see the specific exercises your physical therapist gave you more often, mark them Prefer More in the Problem Area Library, or add one to the day's workout with + Add. VivaBuilt doesn't replace your therapist's guidance.

How do I use it with my trainer?

Show your trainer the workout on your phone, or hand it over during a session. If your trainer assigns an exercise, add it to the day's workout with + Add. There's no sharing or account linking; everything stays on your phone.

How is this different from other workout apps?

Most apps plan from your goal and maybe your equipment. VivaBuilt also plans from what you tell it about your body and what the Fit Test shows: which areas and movements to be careful with, and how much. That changes which exercises you get and how hard they are, not just the weight.

Is it a replacement for physical therapy or a doctor?

No. VivaBuilt is a fitness app, not medical care. If you have a serious or recently diagnosed condition, talk to your doctor or physical therapist before training, and stop any exercise that causes concerning pain.

What happens when the free trial ends?

Nothing is charged. VivaBuilt asks whether you'd like to subscribe before your next workout. Your workouts and history stay on your phone either way, and they're all there when you subscribe.

Can my family share one subscription?

Yes. VivaBuilt subscriptions support Apple Family Sharing, so one subscription can cover up to five other members of your Family Sharing group. Each person's workouts and history stay on their own phone.

What happens to my data if I get a new phone?

Your workouts and history live on your iPhone. They're included when you back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer, and they come with you when you restore that backup or transfer to a new iPhone. Deleting the app without a backup deletes your data, and we can't recover it, because we never have a copy.

Does it work with Apple Health or Apple Watch?

Not yet. If that matters to you, tell us at support@vivabuiltfitness.com; it helps us decide what to build next.

Does it need an internet connection?

No. Everything runs on your phone. A connection is only needed to subscribe or restore a purchase.

Not medical advice

VivaBuilt is a fitness app, not medical care or physical therapy. It adjusts workouts based on what you report; it doesn't diagnose or treat anything. Talk to a qualified professional before starting a new exercise program, and stop any exercise that causes concerning pain or symptoms.
